Once again, moderation is the key. Here&#8217;s why&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 22px;\">More is less when it comes to feedings and sleep:<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 22px;\">Don&#8217;t feed them <em><strong>too often through the night<\/strong><\/em> in an attempt to <em><strong>force them to sleep<\/strong><\/em> or they may learn this rhythm and <em><strong>wake up<\/strong><\/em> expecting to eat in response to the constant feedings &#8211; not because they&#8217;re hungry. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 22px;\">The point at which you choose to feed your baby in their nightly routine is important and can help them sleep, but <em><strong>extra unnecessary feedings<\/strong><\/em> to force them to sleep can ultimately <em><strong>disrupt longer periods of healthy sleep<\/strong><\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 22px;\">Just right hits the spot and promotes healthy sleep:<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 22px;\">On the other hand, don&#8217;t try to get them to sleep through the night by not feeding them in the middle of the night. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 22px;\">If they <em><strong>wake up hungry<\/strong><\/em> &#8211; <em><strong>feed them<\/strong><\/em> and put them back to bed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 22px;\">Pay attention to your baby&#8217;s needs and check with your <em><strong>health care provider<\/strong><\/em> to find what feeding frequency they recommend.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 22px;\">Crying isn&#8217;t always about being hungry:<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 22px;\">If your baby keeps waking up and you&#8217;ve just fed them &#8211; this may be a <em><strong>sign<\/strong><\/em> that there is something else going on like <em><strong>painful gas<\/strong><\/em>, <em><strong>illness<\/strong><\/em> or <em><strong>colic<\/strong><\/em>. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 22px;\">Check with your health care provider.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 22px;\"><a title=\"Temperature and Humidity\" href=\"http:\/\/toddrsmith.com\/baby\/baby-sleep-tips-contents\/temperature-humidity\/\">&lt;\u00a0 Previous\u00a0Chapter <\/a>\u00a0 \u00a0 <a title=\"Baby Sleep Tips (Contents)\" href=\"http:\/\/toddrsmith.com\/baby\/baby-sleep-tips-contents\/\">Contents<\/a> \u00a0 \u00a0 <a title=\"Background Sounds and Noise\" href=\"http:\/\/toddrsmith.com\/baby\/big-list-baby-sleep-tips\/background-sounds-noise\/\">Next\u00a0Chapter \u00a0 &gt;<\/a> <\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hungry or dinner bell?
